The American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) has created the Claudia B. Holliway Women in Aviation Scholarship. It has been named in honor of a respected leader and mentor in the airport industry whom we lost this last fall.
Along with starting a new scholarship, AAAE has also named the Newcomer’s Reception at the F. Russell Hoyt National Airport Conference in her name.
Holliway was the Vice President and National Aviation Business Development Lead for Michael Baker International at the time of her death. This organization is known for providing engineering and consulting services.
A $5,000 annual award will be given to the deserving female student in an accredited aviation program by the new Claudia B. Holliway Women in Aviation Scholarship.
This is not the first time that AAAE Foundation has come out with a scholarship for women.
The foundation already has four scholarships known as Women in Aviation Scholarships that give financial benefits to deserving students every year.
Michael Baker was a long time employer and was of generous nature, it is because of this that the Claudia B. Holliway Scholarship has come to reality. Various AAAE Chapters and individuals have also made contribution in this.
Since 1989, the AAAE Foundation has given scholarship to over 2,900 students comprising almost $5 million. This has made this organization as one of the biggest supporters of higher education assistance in the whole aviation industry.
The announcement for the creation of this scholarship was made by AAAE President and CEO Todd Hauptil. In his words, Claudia loved to mentor students passionate about flying and the aviation industry.
It makes perfect sense to name the new scholarship after her. Claudia will be remembered as a friendly, impactful, generous, and enthusiastic person. Leadership team at Michael Baker and the AAAE Chapters should be thanked for giving birth to this new scholarship.
Speaking on the occasion, Brian A. Lutes, Michael Baker Chief Executive Officer, stated, anyone who has worked with Claudia is aware the kind of spirit she embodied, one that of ‘We Make a Difference’ spirit of the company.
Lutes feels proud that they have come out with this Women in Aviation Scholarship in the name of Claudia. She gave her time and expertise to the aviation industry and charitable organizations and this is something which will be remembered for long.
